A Cursed Relic

The church has asked Constance to retrieve a mysterious Relic from Duke Gerth, the Empire's Minister of Foreign Affairs. You and Yuri accompany her to the negotiations.

Relevant Units and Availability

Yuri and Constance must both be alive. At least one of Yuri and Constance must be recruited. Byleth, Yuri, and Constance are force deployed on this map.

This paralogue is available from Chapter 8 to Chapter 11.

Reinforcements

  • After a player unit ends their turn within 2 tiles of Duke Gerth, or when Myson is defeated: 3 Archers, 3 Dark Mages, 3 Cavaliers, 2 Brigands spawn around the map. On Maddening only: 2 Snipers, 1 Paladin, 1 Dark Bishop, 1 Dark Mage spawn around the map.

Notes

  • All of the "Thief" enemies (the affiliation, not the class) on the map will turn into Demonic Beasts the turn that they enter combat with Duke Gerth (even if they are defeated by him). The Demonic Beasts will not be able to move until the next enemy phase. This can be prevented by defeating the Thieves yourself.
  • Duke Gerth will prioritize trying to get to Byleth.
  • A whole bunch of reinforcements will spawn if a player unit ends their turn within 2 spaces of Duke Gerthe, or if Myson is defeated. Try to deal with the Demonic Beasts that spawn before allowing this to happen.
  • The two "Thief" enemies above Duke Gerth will begin moving towards him immediately. The other "Thief" enemies will begin moving on turn 5.
  • Myson starts moving one turn after the reinforcements appear, or if the surrounding Dark Bishop, Assassin, and/or Warrior are aggro'd.
  • The Agarthan Soldiers around Myson will only move one turn after the reinforcements appear, or if one of the group is aggro'd.
  • Duke Gerth is not a complete pushover, but he'll be quickly overwhelmed if the enemies get too many turns with him. It's best to delay doing this paralogue until you have hit the necessary thresholds for spells like Warp and Rescue, as well as at least a few fliers.
  • Rushing a Dark Flier with Recover to Duke Gerth can also be effective, since he will rarely get one-rounded as the Demonic Beasts that spawn are not that strong.
